D5

The boundaries of the Coast Guard Running Club Fifth Coast Guard District encompass the states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The National Capitol chapter exists to serve the Headquarters area with it’s large running community.

DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE:

Tim ~ A USCGA Grad (04) and former active duty member – currently works in D.C., lives closer to Richmond, reservists that drills up in Philadelphia, originally from Maryland with in-laws in SE Pennsylvania.  This guy runs most of the D5 AOR.  A wealth of local running knowledge – exceptional integrator he’s ready to take input from the District Members and help D5 become the premier district in the Coast Guard Running Club.

ABOUT D5:

The Fifth District is known by the rest of the world as the Mid-Atlantic.  It spans from the Appalachians to the Atlantic Coast, with a mix of urban and rural areas.  With that sort of variety, you can easily hit the roads, trails or track to race and train.

The Coast Guard has several large installations in the area, including Training Center Cape May, the CG Yard in Baltimore, Headquarters, several units in Hampton Roads/Portsmouth, and a sizable contingent in northern North Carolina.  Although physically located in the Eighth District, there is also a significant CG presence in the nearby eastern panhandle of West Virginia (Martinsburg/Kearneysville).

Headquarters has a particularly strong running community, with dozens of folks heading out on runs through Southwest D.C. at lunch.  The PSSU Headquarters Fitness Center CGWEB page has maps outlining the route of the most common training runs. Several D.C. races have a military focus, including the Tom’s Run Relay, JFK 50 Miler, Annapolis 10 Miler, Army 10 Miler, Marine Corps Marathon, Fredericksburg Historic Half Marathon and Quantico Crossroads 17.75K.

D5 hosts the CG Fitness Council: ?http://cgweb.comdt.uscg.mil/PSD/pages/fitnessRunning.aspx  Check it out from a standard workstation.
