Coast Guard Island Fun Runs

Basic Information:

5k fun run and walkers course.  Last Wednesday of every month at 1130, starts/ends at the gazebo area.  Times are recorded for fun only.  Free to participate.  Bananas, raisins, water, and a raffle ticket (for prizes!) to all participants.  Runs go from March through November, with a winter break for December – February, specially scheduled runs listed after course description.

Course Description (map above).  Runners and Walkers, start by the gazebo and head towards the Oakland side taking a quick right from Wakefield Dr to Eagle Road.  At the intersection of Eagle and Hudson Dr the loop portion of the course begins in a counterclockwise manner.  Runners and walkers enter the runing path by going around the building to the left and under the tree (currently that area is under renovation and an alternate running path entrance will be designated).  Runners and walkers will take the path around until they reach the pier area and follow Spencer Road.  At the end of Spencer the course goes left onto Hudson where it passes the entrance to CGI (be careful of traffic).  Walkers will turn left on Eagle and head for the finish (where the start was) and runners will do one more loop before turning on Eagle to finish.

Special Fun Runs (fun runs that broke from the pack):

August 4th – CG Day Fun Run – with CG Day on the island, we host the fun run that day instead of the regularly scheduled event.  We try to amp it up a little with a clock and music.  The regular 5k course and walk course is used, but excitement is in celebrating CG Day with a healthy dose of fitness!  Look for details with announcements about CG Day festivities for the start time.  No run in July because of proximity to CG Day Run.

September 17th – Run at Work Day – Relay Event.  Instead of your normal individual 5k, Run at Work Day is about getting as many people out and running as possible during the work day.  Along those lines, the fun run will be a 3 person relay, each member completing 1 mile.  Teams from the same command will be able to compete for the Run at Work Day trophy, which will be awarded to the fastest unit and kept either in the MWR trophy case (with the winners name on it), or if desired, at the unit (as long as they promise to bring it back next year).  Of course, there will still be a raffle, and it will be free.

24 November – regular schedule – Turkey Trot – This 5k is anyone’s to win.  Instead of being the fastest who wins it will be the person who most accurately predicts their finish time.  no watches, gps, or timers of any sort are allowed during the run.  In the case of a tie, the tied people get first, and the next gets third and so on.  Oh yeah, it’s free to participate.

Community Programs and Health and Fitness Non-Profit Participation:

Are you involved in a program that promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages participation in sports?  If so we invite you to join us for a fun run and talk with our participants about your program.

Community Health and Fitness Professionals Participation:

Are you a health or fitness professional?  We welcome health and fitness professionals to join us in participating in the fun runs.  Please come prepared to give a brief presentation/discussion with participants at the end of the run.  For example, we welcome coaches, massage therapists, chiropractors, podiatrists, yoga/pilate instructors, personal trainers.  Contact admin@runuscg.org to discuss the requirements for entry onto Coast Guard island and scheduling (can’t have you all there at once!).

Sponsors, Supporters and Donors:

Yes, we would love for you to help us improve our fun runs through donations.  If you would like to donate raffle prizes, food, water or other race aids just contact us and we will ensure that it gets to the event coordinator – Mr Fun Run (as well as vet it through legal).  The Coast Guard Running Club thanks you in advance for your kind support of our program.

For anything and everything, contact admin@runuscg.org and we’ll work it out.
