D11 Raising Funds for Marine Corps Scholarship Fund

May 23, 2011   //   by Ken Burgess   //   Blog, District 11  //  No Comments

BM1 Jessica Shafer (Station Golden Gate) is raising money for the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund.  BM1 is a club member from District 11 and involved with organizing the Heritage Run, a race the club has been involved in from inception and continues to support.  ?The 2011 Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Marathon Team helps raise much needed funds to provide scholarships to children of Marines.    Last year, the team had over 70 runners cross the finish line and their efforts raised over $60,000.  This year they are trying to raise $100,000.  Marine Corps Marathon is on October 30th, 2011 and is also the Armed Forces Championships.  Runners that believe they have what it takes should get an application routed through their command and to CWO Robert Downs of the Community Service Command before it’s too late.  Last year Marianne LaChance of HQ MWR put on quite the after party with a tent full of volunteers, food, food…. drinks, and more food – there was even a sleeping bags to warm runners up as their bodies finally realized what they had just done.  ** Marine Corps is already sold out, like so many good races.  Tip for next year, they offer military only registration first, get in then and then don’t worry.  We’ve heard of runners who have patrol schedules or deployment changes being able to transfer their registration to the next year.

Bottom Line – Donate to a good cause – Run Marine Corps – Thank MWR.

The USCGRC was awarded the 2010 National Running Award for Outstanding Club Website (overall and small club) at the RRCA National Banquet and Running Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2011 in Fredericksburg, VA.  Simone Adair, USCG Auxiliary District 11 Division 1 Commander and RRCA California – East State Rep, received the award for the club and presented it to the Chief Technical Officer along with the President and Chief Operations Officer on Coast Guard Island in Alameda California.  This is a particular honor because the club website is a main focus as it links together the community of athletes within our service family.

Four Coast Guard Teams Compete in the Island Perimeter Relay

May 5, 2011   //   by CEpperson   //   Guam Running and Training Blog  //  No Comments

30 April 2011 GUAM: Four Coast Guard Teams that encompassed every unit and sub-unit on Guam took to the roads at 4am to race the Perimeter Relay.  Teams of 10 battled around the  hilly and windy conditions routinely found in the Pacific Islands.  In the end, victory eluded our Coast Guard cadre but the day was a success and this memorable event will be revisited in years to come.
